Getting Back into the Swing of School

By Justin Peacock

Spring break has just recently ended and now you have to go back to school with your mind stuck in the mud with only the desire to stay home and continue the break. Some of you have such an opportunity to be able to do so, and some of you don’t have the luxury to afford missing classes already. And because of that, a lot of students struggle to focus in class or let alone stay awake long enough to understand what the teacher is saying, and what assignments are being handed out. We’ve all had a moment like that at some point, and most of our grades probably suffered as a result. But that all ends now as I’m going to share with you a couple ways to get yourself back into a ready and focused mindset to get back into the thick of things.

Step 1: Set a schedule – Setting up a routine or schedule is one of the primary ways of getting back into a working mindset. Try starting with small things first and move your way up to getting to dealing with larger tasks at a certain time. For instance, if you’re in home, set up a time to take of chores throughout the day and another for prepping for tomorrow.

Step 2: Mental preparation – A lot of times, lacking the proper mental and/or physical

preparation is one of the main ways that can cause you to become lacking in your performance. To counter this occurrence, take a moment to think about where you’re going and what you should expect when you arrive. This way, you’ll be able to keep it together long enough to get through the day.

Step 3: Meals – Eating correctly and on time can be one of the of things that will affect how you go about your day. If you don’t get eat much when you wake up, you’ll end up lacking the energy to do a number of tasks and the thought of food will be the only thing on your mind. And if you eat too much, you’ll begin to feel sluggish and/or Fatigued, particularly if your food is rich in Carbohydrates or Protein as your body will produce more Serotonin.

Step 5: Sleeping habits – During spring break, A large number of students didn’t have a set time to go bed, and only went when they actually felt tired. Setting up a time to head to bed at least two days before is a good way to get your internal clock to set itself with the new sleep schedule and give you a better chance of getting up in the morning and have time to get prepped.

Final step: Routine – From everything that has been listed throughout this article, having a routine would be the final step in keeping yourself in a working a condition. If you can keep yourself stuck to your routine every day, it’ll develop into a habit that you’ll do without much thought.

These are some of the list of steps that you can follow to help get yourself into a functioning habit for school. To best benefit you to perform at your highest peak. Keep these steps in mind any time you come back from a break and not performing at your usual pace or even better. And remember, “An army marches on it’s stomach.” So be sure to eat correctly and make sure it’s balanced.
