Declassified High School Survival Guide

by Grace Yi

High school can sometimes be a challenging place to be in. Additionally, high school is the place where most of you will spend 4 crucial years of your young adult lives.

Fitting In

During this time period, “fitting in” is not always the easiest thing to do and Ellison, of course along with any other high school, has it’s cliches. You have your typical high school cliques; athletes, band, gamers, artsy types, ect. You may be thinking about what clique you belong in, while maybe some of you don’t belong to just one. You may have interest in broader spectrums and that’s great, and if you don’t that's okay, too! High school is a place where you can figure out what your interests are.

Being a Good Student

Many of you may be scared of school work and may be looking through this article for tips on how to be a “good student.”  Being a good student isn’t just about making good grades; instead, it’s about participation, respect, and being prepared. The majority of what high school is, is time management. If you can figure out how to manage your time wisely, you will be set for life. One important time management tip is to get the easy things done first. By doing so, you allow yourself more time for more challenging work, plus it will help boost your morale as getting simple tasks done can help motivate you.

As you spend your time in high school, you should all remember to expand your horizons, be kind to every individual you meet (you don’t know their situation), and of course the golden rule, “treat others how you want to be treated.”
